After literally years of waiting, the HIPAA Security Regulations were finally released on February 20th. Although covered entities technically have at least twenty-six months to comply, the privacy regulations require covered entities to "safeguard" their PHI. Since "safeguards" and "security" are largely inseparable, it is therefore essential that covered entities understand what these new rules will require and how they effect your efforts to meet the April 14, 2003 privacy compliance deadline. The HIPAA Privacy WorkGroups along with Dyntek, a leader in educational and technical services for security, will take participants through an overview of the final Security Rules, emphasizing what has changed from the proposed version. We will discuss what they mean for HIPAA Implementation and, most importantly, what providers can do (and must do) before April 14. As usual, we will provide a great handout including the actual final regulations and sample policies for HIPAA on Security.

Last Minute Physician Compliance *What They Absolutely Have to Have - And How To Get There* March 31, 2003
April 14, 2003 is right around the corner, and no reprieve from the HIPAA privacy regulations is in sight. If physicians haven’t started getting ready, what can they do now? If they haven’t fully prepared, what parts are the most critical? This very useful full-day session will help physicians and their offices answer those questions. The day begins with a thorough introduction to the privacy rule using a format that is uniquely suited to understanding exactly what is required and how those requirements work together. Armed with that background, the presentation reviews compliance options, including the "classic" seven-step approach, assessment and implementation short-cuts, prioritizing compliance issues, and other very practical considerations. The session then turns to a detailed examination of the rule itself, focusing on those requirements that are the most likely to create problems. Using the same unique analytical outline, the details of those key requirements are explored. More importantly, participants will receive practical and useful advice on how to comply with those provisions. Registration includes a detailed handout featuring forms, agreements, documents, checklists and other customizable resources, as well as references to free resources, suggestions for selecting and using out-side help, and much more.
